Shoe horns, all twenty say long, and long runs from 10cm to 70cm
The short answer
Prices in GBPUSDEUReach row carries the day it was readTwenty shoe horns from one search, none of them handled here. The kind of thing bought because bending down to your shoes has started to feel like work.
Every title says long. Long runs from 10cm to 70cm.
The word has stopped meaning anything
All twenty of these listings describe themselves as long. Eight give a length.
| Length | Where it is stated |
|---|---|
| 10, 12, 16cm | A pair of pocket horns titled “long shoespooner” |
| 19.5cm | A plastic horn titled “long handle”, in its own photograph |
| 30cm | Two horns, one steel, one plastic |
| 47cm | The cheapest horn on the page |
| 52cm | A polished steel horn |
| 55cm | A mahogany horn |
| 55cm or 70cm | A wooden horn sold in both |
| 44.7cm or 70.5cm | A dark lacquered horn sold in both |
| 32 to 55cm | One wooden design sold under six listings, in its size chart |
Eight of those are in titles. The 19.5cm and the 32 to 55cm come from the photographs, and twelve titles give no length at all.
So “long” is not a size. It is a word every seller in this category uses because it is what people type, and it covers everything from something you keep in a jacket pocket to something you could walk with.
The photographs draw the line for you
This is the useful part, and it comes from the sellers’ own pictures rather than from anything they say.
Every 30cm horn on this page is photographed being used sitting down. On a bench, on a chair, one foot on the floor.
Every horn from about 45cm up is photographed being used standing. Upright, one hand on the handle, the horn reaching the heel.
That is the real decision, and it is about you rather than the horn:
- If you sit to put your shoes on, a short horn is fine and a long one is just more to store.
- If the point is not bending, you want the 45cm and longer ones. Taller people and anybody putting on boots should go longer still.
Six listings, one wooden horn
The wooden horn with a leather loop at the top turns up under six different titles, with the same photographs and the same size chart: 32, 38, 55cm, in light and dark wood.
That is several sellers stocking one product, and it is fine. It means the listing you pick matters less than the option you pick inside it. The 32cm and 38cm versions are the sitting down size. The 55cm is the standing one.
Plastic, wood or steel
| Material | Good for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Plastic | Cheap, light, a hook ring | Flexes on stiff heels |
| Wood | Looks better by the door | Can be thick at the tip |
| Steel | Stiff shoes and boots | Dearer and heavier |
For trainers and soft shoes any of them works. For a stiff leather heel, a horn that bends is a horn that slips, which is the one situation where the steel earns its price.
Two of them fold away
Two horns on this page are telescopic. They collapse into a bag and extend to standing length, which is the only way to travel with a horn that works without bending. They also have a joint in the middle of the thing you lean on every morning, which is the trade, and for a horn that lives by the front door a solid one is simpler.

| Best overall, and the cheapest Long Handled Shoehorn for Pregnant Women and Elderly | £1.72$2.30€2.03checked 18 Oct 2026 | The lowest price on this page and one of the few listings that states its size, 47cm long and 4.2cm wide, in the title and in a measured photograph. That is long enough to use standing up for most adults, the photographs show it being used that way, and it has a ring at the end to hang it on a hook by the door. Plastic, in several colours. | The wooden one, bought sensibly Hanging Shoe Horn Extra Long Handle Easy on Off | £3.47$4.49€4.08checked 18 Oct 2026 | This design is sold under six listings on this page with the same photographs and one size chart running from 32cm to 55cm. This listing had the lowest price of the six with a tracking link when checked. Choose the 55cm option if the point is not bending, since the 32cm and 38cm are the sitting down sizes by the line the rest of this page draws. | Steel, for stiff shoes Metal Shoe Horn Long Handle 52cm Helper Leather | £16.06Price on AliExpress€18.90checked 18 Oct 2026 | A one piece polished steel horn at 52cm, with the length printed on its own measured photograph. Steel does not bend, which matters with a stiff leather heel or a boot where a plastic horn would flex and slip. It costs several times the plastic ones and weighs more. What you can settle before you buy
- The only question that matters is whether you want to bend. A short horn works sitting down or bending over. A long one works standing up. The sellers' own photographs sort themselves this way without meaning to: every 30cm horn on this page is shown in use on a bench or a chair, and every horn from about 45cm up is shown in use by somebody standing.
- The best value on the page is also the one that tells you its length. A 47cm plastic horn at under two pounds, with the length in the title and a photograph showing the 47cm and the 4.2cm width. Long enough to use standing, with a ring for a hook.
- Six of these listings are one wooden horn. Same photographs, same size chart, 32cm to 55cm as options rather than products. If you like that one, choose the 55cm option from whichever listing is cheapest.
- Material is mostly a matter of taste, with one exception. Wood and plastic horns are light and cheap. Polished steel is heavier, dearer and does not flex, which is what you want when a stiff heel counter is fighting back.
What to read twice
- Every one of the twenty titles says long. Twelve never say how long. Among the eight that do, a plastic horn titled "long handle" measures 19.5cm in its own photograph, and a pair titled "long shoespooner" comes in 10, 12 and 16cm. The word has stopped meaning anything.
- When a length is given it is often a menu, not a product. The wooden horn sold under six listings comes in four lengths. The title of one says 55cm 70cm. The number in the heading may not be the one you receive unless you pick it.
- Half the titles say seniors or elderly. That is who a long horn is genuinely for, and it is also a search phrase attached to the pocket sized ones. The length decides whether it helps somebody who cannot bend, not the word.
- Two are telescopic, and that is a trade. A horn that collapses into a bag and extends to standing length is the only way to travel with a long one. It is also a joint in the middle of something you lean on.
