Sticky wall hooks, heavy duty is on thirteen titles and a weight is on none

The short answer

Prices in GBPeach row carries the day it was read
Best overall 10/20/30Pcs Self-adhesive Wall Hooks The most forthcoming listing on the page by a distance, once you open its images. It prints the load it carries, it says waterproof and oilproof, it names the plastic it is made from, and it is the one that shows you which walls it will stick to and which it will not. None of that is in its title. Everything about it is a claim that could be checked and found wrong, which on this shelf makes it an outlier worth paying a little more for. Sold as a range of pack sizes, so look at which option the figure on the front refers to £4.02checked 18 Oct 2026 Check price opens in a new tab
Most hooks for the money by a long way 200 Pack Sticky Hooks for Hanging Heavy Duty Two hundred of them, and the division works out at roughly a tenth of what the next best here costs per hook. Its images print a load figure that matches what two other listings claim, so it is not the odd one out on the only number that matters. If what you want is a drawer of small clear hooks to stop thinking about, this is the arithmetic answer and nothing else is close £5.22checked 18 Oct 2026 Check price opens in a new tab
The pack that beats a smaller one for less 28 Pack Sticky Hooks for Hanging Heavy Duty Twenty eight hooks for less than another listing on this page charges for twelve. Both say heavy duty, both are clear, and nothing in either title explains the gap. It is the same hook as the two hundred pack from the look of it, so buy this if two hundred is absurd for your house and you still want the better price per hook £5.12checked 18 Oct 2026 Check price opens in a new tab
If you want metal rather than plastic 4 pcs Locking Curve Self-Adhesive Towel A black brushed hook sold as 304 stainless steel, four to a pack, measured in its own photograph at 4.5cm square with the hook standing 2.5cm off the wall. Its surfaces panel ticks ceramic, mosaic, glass, painted panels, metal and wooden doors and crosses out painted walls, rough plaster and fragile wallpaper. For a bathroom, where a plated hook will eventually rust and stainless resists it, that is the distinction worth having. It gives no load figure anywhere, which is the one thing it is quieter about than the pick above £8.63checked 18 Oct 2026 Check price opens in a new tab
If you are renting Hanging Adhesive Wall Hooks Self-adhesive Says no damage and waterproof, and at six centimetres across it is a large clear pad rather than a small dot, so it will take a coat or a bag rather than a tea towel. It is also the only one here whose images explain that you can wash the pad under a tap and warm it with a hairdryer to bring the glue back, which makes it reusable when you move something. Treat the no damage claim as the seller's rather than mine, and when you take it off, peel slowly and pull along the wall rather than away from it £2.90checked 18 Oct 2026 Check price opens in a new tab

Fourteen self adhesive wall hooks, the kind you stick up instead of drilling. Cheap, genuinely useful, and sold almost entirely on two words.

Thirteen of the fourteen titles say heavy duty. Not one title says how much weight it holds.

That is the finding this page started with. Then I opened the photographs, and it turned into a more interesting one.

The specification exists. It is just not in the words.

No title gives a weight. No title gives a size. No title names a wall surface.

The pictures give all three.

I opened the photographs of eight of these fourteen, which is the six this page recommends, one it deliberately does not, and one taken off this site since. Of those eight, four print a load figure across a product shot, five print their dimensions, and two print a list of which walls they work on and which they do not. The remaining six I have not opened, so treat the counts below as what half the shelf does rather than all of it.

The one taken off this site was a stainless hook titled 3M, with its adhesive pad printed 3M in its own photograph. 3M is a manufacturer’s mark, and a marketplace listing that carries it is not one this site repeats.

None of that is searchable, sortable or comparable. It sits in a JPEG, which means the one specification that decides the purchase is invisible to every way a shopper actually narrows a list down. So the practical advice for this shelf is simple and slightly annoying: the titles are the advertising and the images are the datasheet. Scroll the images.

Three say ten kilograms. One says a hundred pounds.

Here is what the four of those eight that print a load actually claim.

What it saysWhich is about
10KG10 kg
10KG10 kg
WEIGHT 22LBS10 kg
100LBS STRONG LOAD CAPACITY45 kg

Three of the four agree, and the third is the same figure written in pounds. Ten kilograms from a stuck-on pad the size of a large postage stamp is a believable claim. It is a winter coat and a bag, and it is roughly what the better known brands of this kind of hook claim for a similar pad.

The fourth says a hundred pounds. Four and a half times what the other three say, on a pad of the same sort of size.

The same listing prints fall free guarantee and fifty year durability across its other photographs.

That is the shape worth learning, because it turns up everywhere on this site: the outsized number and the outsized promise travel together. A seller willing to guarantee something for fifty years is a seller for whom the words cost nothing, and the load figure is coming from the same place. It is a perfectly ordinary looking black hook and it may well be fine for a coat. It is simply not a hook I am going to repeat a forty five kilogram claim for, so it is not picked.

Work out the price per hook, because nothing else compares

Five of the fourteen give a straight count you can divide into the price. Here they are, on the day this was written.

PriceHooksEach, roughly
5.182003p
5.082818p
0.76419p
5.231244p
8.5742.14

About three pence at one end and over two pounds at the other.

Some of that gap is real: the dearest is a locking metal towel hook and the cheapest per unit is a small clear one, and those are different objects. But no title tells you which is which. Five of the eight I opened print their dimensions in a photograph, in inches and centimetres, and the rest leave you judging scale from a hook against a blank wall.

Twenty eight hooks cost less than twelve

Look at the middle rows again.

One listing sells twenty eight hooks. Another sells twelve. The twenty eight pack is the cheaper of the two, and both say heavy duty, and neither says anything else that would explain it.

Four of them will not tell you what you are buying

Four listings are sold as a range: five, ten, twenty or fifty pieces, or ten, twenty or thirty.

The price on the front belongs to one of those options and the title does not say which. It is usually the smallest, because that is what puts a listing highest in a price sort, but you cannot tell from the title and I am not going to pretend otherwise. Those four are not comparable on price per hook until you open them and read the options. That removes four of fourteen from the one comparison that works.

The wall decides this, and two listings say so

Every one of these fourteen lists rooms. Kitchen, bathroom, door, ceiling, office. The room is not what decides whether an adhesive hook works. The wall is, and thirteen titles are silent on it.

Two listings are not. The best overall pick prints two columns in its fourth photograph:

  • Will stick: marble, ceramic tile, wood, glass, metal, other smooth surfaces
  • Will not stick: lime wall, uneven wall, dirty wall, brick

The black stainless hook does the same in pictures, ticking ceramic, mosaic, glass, painted panels, metal and wooden doors and crossing out painted walls, rough plaster and fragile wallpaper.

That is correct, it is useful, and it is the reason the first of them is the pick at the top of this page. To it I would add the ones that catch people in British houses in particular:

  • woodchip or textured paper, where the adhesive touches only the high points
  • any wallpaper, because the paper lets go of the wall before the hook lets go of the paper
  • emulsion painted in the last month, which is still curing
  • chalky or distempered plaster, which comes away as a layer
  • anything dusty, which is most garage and shed walls

Two of the eight I opened do say the other thing that matters, and it is worth repeating because it is the commonest cause of failure: give it twelve hours before you hang anything on it. Pressure sensitive adhesive keeps gaining grip for most of a day, and most of the failures people blame on a cheap hook are a hook that was loaded twenty minutes after it went up.

One listing goes further and is the only one here that does. Its images show you washing the pad under a tap and drying it with a hairdryer to bring the glue back, which means these are meant to be moved and reused rather than thrown away. That is a real feature and it is, again, nowhere in the words.

If you take one thing from this page

Ignore heavy duty. It is on thirteen of the fourteen, which makes it worth nothing as a way of telling them apart.

Then do the three things the titles will not do for you. Open the images and look for a load figure. Divide the price by the number of hooks. Buy a small pack first and find out what your own wall does before you commit to two hundred.

What is good

What this page can settle, if you know where to look

  • The weight is printed on four of the fourteen, in the pictures. Not in a single title. Three of the four say ten kilograms, one of them written as twenty two pounds, which is the same figure. That is roughly a winter coat and a bag, and it is a believable number for a well stuck pad of this size.
  • Two listings name the walls they will and will not stick to, also in a picture. One puts marble, ceramic tile, wood, glass, metal and other smooth surfaces on the yes side and lime, uneven and dirty walls and brick on the no side. The other crosses out painted walls, rough plaster and fragile wallpaper. It is the single most useful thing on this page and it took opening the images to find.
  • How many you get, on five of the fourteen. Four, twelve, twenty eight, two hundred. Where the count is one number you can divide it into the price and compare like for like, which is the only honest comparison this shelf allows. Do it before anything else.
  • Kitchen and bathroom use, on four and two. Four say waterproof and two also say oilproof. Steam works adhesive loose over months and kitchen grease defeats it far faster, so on the two rooms these are mostly bought for, those words are worth more than heavy duty is.
  • One names its metal. A black brushed hook sold as 304 stainless steel, the grade made to resist rust in a damp room, with its size in a photograph. Everything else still on this page is plastic or does not say.
What is not great

What to read twice

  • Thirteen of the fourteen titles say heavy duty. None of the fourteen titles gives a weight. Heavy duty is the whole sales proposition of this product and the number it stands for is in none of the words you search, sort and compare by. A hook for a tea towel and a hook for a winter coat are sold with the same two words here.
  • One claims a hundred pounds, which is four and a half times what everyone else claims. Three listings say ten kilograms. One says a hundred pounds, about forty five kilograms, on the same size of adhesive pad. The same listing prints fall free guarantee and fifty year durability across its photographs. When the outsized number and the outsized promise are on the same listing, that is the pattern to distrust, and it is why it is not picked below.
  • Twenty eight hooks cost less than twelve. Both are on this page, both say heavy duty, both are clear plastic, and the twenty eight pack is the cheaper. If you were using price as a rough guide to quality, which is reasonable when nothing else is stated, you would have it exactly backwards.
  • Four of them sell a range rather than a quantity. Titles like five, ten, twenty or fifty pieces. The price shown belongs to one of those options and the title does not say which, so those four cannot be compared on price per hook at all until you open the listing and look at what the figure buys.
  • No title gives a size, so you cannot tell a big steel towel hook from a small clear dot. Both are on this page and the gap in price per hook between them is roughly eighty to one. Five of the eight opened here print their dimensions in a photograph, and the rest leave you to judge scale from a picture of a hook on a blank wall.
