Luggage scales, twenty one listings, nine designs, and the reading has to hold

The short answer

Prices in GBPeach row carries the day it was read
Best overall, with the hold in its own photograph 110lb/50kg Electronic Scale Digital LCD The silver bar with one round button and a grey webbing strap, a design sold under three listings here, and this is the cheapest of the three that says it locks the reading. Its gallery lists auto weight locking, tare, auto off and a low battery warning, reads in kg, lb, oz and g, and is honest that you should use two hands above 15kg. It measures about 15 by 5.5cm, small enough to live in the case £5.31checked 18 Oct 2026 Check price opens in a new tab
Very cheap, with the battery in the box 50kg 10g LCD Digital Scale Electronic A stainless bar with a blue backlit window and a black webbing strap, about 15cm long by its own photograph, with a coin cell shown in the box beside the manual. It costs very little. This listing says nothing about locking the reading, although the same scale sold under another listing here puts auto weight lock on its feature panel £2.95checked 28 Sept 2026 Check price opens in a new tab
The commonest design, from a listing that says what it does Luggage Scale 110lb 50kg Digital Handheld The silver and black Z/T and UNIT bar sold under nine listings on this page. This one states the automatic lock, tare, auto shutdown, a backlit screen and a 0.02lb step, and gives its size, about 13 by 4.3cm with a 22cm strap. Its gallery also says the battery is not included; the same design elsewhere names it as a CR2032. Another listing uses exactly these photographs at nearly twice the price £6.05checked 18 Oct 2026 Check price opens in a new tab
If you want a hold you can see 50kg/110lb Digital Luggage Scale LCD Display Black and silver with a red LED display, and the only listing whose own photographs say HOLD on the feature panel and show the data lock on a reading. It runs on two AAA batteries, which are easier to find in a hurry than a coin cell, and shows its low battery and overload warnings. It costs more than most of this page £8.59checked 18 Oct 2026 Check price opens in a new tab
If you want a proper handle LCD Digital Hanging Scale Luggage Suitcase A D shaped handle you put your whole hand through, with Max 50kg d=10g moulded into the body, a blue backlight, a tare button and a strap that closes with a plastic buckle. A handle is easier to lift a heavy case with than a thin bar, and the photographs show it doing exactly that. The same body with a hook instead of a strap is sold here for more than twice as much. It does not mention a hold £5.32checked 18 Oct 2026 Check price opens in a new tab
The smallest, with a strap 1Pc 40kg/100g LCD Digital Electronic Luggage An oval scale about 10 by 3.8cm with a single ON/OFF button and a buckle strap, in black, blue or pink. Its title gives a 40kg limit and a 100g step, the coarsest on the page, which does not matter for a suitcase: nobody is charged for 50 grams. Its display carries a hold marker, and it is the least to carry in a small bag £3.45checked 18 Oct 2026 Check price opens in a new tab

Twenty one luggage scales from one search, none of them handled here. The small thing you hang a suitcase from the night before a flight so the airline does not charge you at the desk.

Twenty one listings. About nine designs. And the feature that matters is on none of the titles.

Every one of them reaches past your bag

What the title says it holdsListings
50kg, usually as 110lb/50kg17
40kg3
Nothing at all1

A checked bag is usually allowed 20 or 23kg, depending on the airline and the ticket. A 40kg scale weighs that as well as a 50kg one does. The capacity on the title is there because it is the biggest number the seller has, not because it decides anything.

One of the three 40kg titles reads 110lb/40kg. Those are not the same weight: 110lb is 50kg, and the listing’s own first photograph says 50kg.

Twenty one listings, nine designs

Put the photographs side by side and the shelf collapses.

DesignListings
Silver and black bar, two buttons marked Z/T and UNIT9
Silver bar with one round button and a grey strap3
Stainless bar with a blue backlit window2
Black D shaped handle, Max 50kg d=10g moulded in2
Five designs sold once each5

The Z/T and UNIT bar is the default luggage scale of this marketplace. Nine listings sell it, and the dearest costs nearly three times the cheapest. Two of the nine use an identical set of photographs. Choose the design you want and then the cheapest listing of it.

The five sold once each are a black and silver bar with a red LED display, a black rubber bar with a buckle strap, an oval scale small enough to lose in a pocket, a square pocket scale on a lanyard with a hook, and a hook scale with a green screen and a handle. Those last two are fishing scales that also say luggage.

The reading has to stay on the screen

A full suitcase is heavy enough that you lift it with the scale in both hands, and at that point the display is under your fingers or facing the ceiling. Three galleries say so outright: one hand up to about 15kg or 30lb, two hands above that.

So the feature worth having is a lock, sometimes called hold or data lock: the scale waits for the reading to settle, freezes it, and usually beeps. You put the case down and read the number.

Where the listing says it locks the readingListings
In a title0
In a photograph8
Nowhere13

The thirteen are not necessarily without it. Several are the same Z/T and UNIT bar that three other listings say locks. But a listing that does not say so has not told you, and every pick above except the D handle and the very cheap one comes from the eight.

Strap or hook

What hangs from the scaleListings
A webbing strap that clips back on itself, or closes with a buckle16
A steel hook only4
Both1

A strap goes round a suitcase handle of any shape. A hook needs something it can catch, and on a case with a flat recessed handle it can slip. The four hook-only scales are sold as much for fish and shopping as for luggage.

Batteries

Four listings name or show a CR2032 coin cell and three say two AAA batteries. Six say in a photograph that no battery is included, and one advertises that its battery is. A coin cell is cheap and fiddly to find at short notice; AAA batteries are sold almost everywhere.

Check it once before you trust it

Six titles say 10g and one says 100g. That is how finely the display moves, not how right it is, and none of the twenty one gives a tolerance. The kitchen scales guide goes through why a step is not an accuracy.

Two listings print something that sounds like a tolerance and is a step: one says accurate to 5g below 10kg and 10g above, the other 0.05kg. Neither says how far off the reading may be.

The easy check is at home. A sealed two litre bottle of water weighs a little over 2kg; hang a bag of them and see what the scale says. Then leave half a kilo of margin under your allowance and stop worrying about the last digit.

What was left out, and why

One gallery prints a seller’s WhatsApp number and email address across a product photograph, so that listing is not picked. Another listing is the one whose photographs are identical to a cheaper one’s. The two fishing scales are fine at what they are for, and a bare hook is the wrong tool for most suitcase handles. And the cheapest scale on the page, whose photograph says 101lb where its title says 50kg, is the same stainless bar as the very cheap pick, sold under a second listing.

What is good

What you can settle before you buy

  • The capacity is not the question. Seventeen titles say 50kg and three say 40kg. A checked bag is usually allowed 20 or 23kg, depending on the airline and the ticket, so every scale here reaches well past the bag you are weighing.
  • Look for a hold, or auto lock, in the photographs. With a full case hanging from it you are holding the scale in both hands and cannot see the display. A scale that freezes the reading once it settles lets you put the case down and read it. Eight of the twenty one say they do this, every time in a photograph and never in a title.
  • Buy a strap unless you know you want a hook. Sixteen come with a webbing strap that goes round a suitcase handle and clips back on itself. Four have only a steel hook, which is how a fishing or market scale is sold, and one has both.
  • Several listings are the same scale. A silver and black bar with two buttons, marked Z/T and UNIT, is sold under nine of these listings, and the dearest of them costs nearly three times the cheapest. Pick a design first and then the cheapest listing of it.
What is not great

What to read twice

  • A step is not an accuracy. Six titles say 10g and one says 100g. That is how finely the display moves, and none of the twenty one gives a tolerance. For a bag near its allowance, leave half a kilo of margin whatever the screen says.
  • Check whether a battery is in the box. Six listings say in a photograph that it is not. Four scales take a CR2032 coin cell and three take two AAA batteries, and the listing is the only place to find out which before it arrives.
  • Two listings disagree with themselves. One title says 110lb/40kg, which are not the same weight, and its own first photograph says 50kg. Another says 50kg in its title and 0.1 to 101lb in a photograph, which is about 46kg.
  • Three galleries admit you need two hands. They say one hand up to about 15kg or 30lb and two hands above it. A full suitcase is above it, so expect to lift with both hands and read the screen afterwards.
  • One gallery prints a seller's WhatsApp number and email address. That listing is not picked.
