Windscreen frost covers, fifteen use magnets and not every bonnet is steel
The short answer
Prices in GBPUSDEUReach row carries the day it was readThirty three windscreen covers from one search and the order export, none of them handled here. The sheet you put over the glass the night before, so the morning starts with peeling it off rather than ten minutes with a scraper.
Ten titles name a car, fifteen covers use magnets, and two are not frost covers at all.
Windscreen, or three windows
| What the photographs show | Listings |
|---|---|
| Windscreen only, usually with mirror covers, two of them for motorhomes | 16 |
| Windscreen and front side windows, some over the bonnet and roof as well | 15 |
| A folding foil sun shade that goes inside the glass | 2 |
A windscreen cover is a sheet the size of the glass with something at each corner to hold it down. The three window kind carries on round the front pillars to cover the door glass, and on some the door handles, which saves scraping those too. The biggest go back over the roof. The cheaper three window covers cost about what a good windscreen cover does; the ones that go over the roof cost up to four times as much.
Measure the glass
| Size printed on the windscreen covers for cars | Listings |
|---|---|
| 140 to 150cm across | 4 |
| 190 to 210cm across | 2 |
| No size given | 8 |
Eight of the sixteen windscreen covers give a size in a title or a photograph, two of them for motorhomes. Measure across the bottom of your windscreen and up the middle, and buy a cover a little larger than the glass rather than a little smaller: the edge needs to lie on the bodywork, not on the rubber seal.
How it holds on
Magnets are the quick way. Fifteen covers show or name them, sewn into the edge so they sit on the bonnet or the roof. They only hold on steel, and plenty of cars now have an aluminium bonnet, so try a fridge magnet first. One listing says its magnets will not harm the paint and another lines the cover with a paint friendly layer. Any magnet will scratch if there is grit under it and the cover is dragged across, so lift it on and off.
Door flaps are the dependable way. A panel at each side tucks inside the front door and is shut in. The wind cannot lift it, and nobody can take it without opening the car.
Elastic straps round the mirrors, or cords with hooks down to the wheels, are the third. Many use two of the three.
The car on the title
Ten titles name a car maker: Fiat, Volvo, MG, Hyundai, Citroen, Ford, Zeekr and Mercedes among them. The photographs say what that is worth. The cover sold For Fiat and the cover sold For Volvo are one gallery at one price. Four listings for Citroen, Ford, Zeekr and Mercedes share one set of photographs taken on an Audi. Covers for MG and for Hyundai share their own panels at different prices.
A car maker on the title is a search word, not a shape made for that car. Go by the size, where there is one, and by your tape measure.
What was left out, and why
The two foil sun shades are good sun shades and are not frost covers. The half car covers that also do the roof cost several times what a windscreen cover does, for a job most mornings only need on the glass. The four listings that share the Audi photographs are left out because the three window pick does the same job for less than half the price. One cover has no price on the listing at all.

| Best overall, and it says how big it is Car Windshield Snow Cover Waterproof Anti Ice Frost | £11.02$14.69€12.97checked 18 Oct 2026 | A quilted silver windscreen cover from a maker with a name, KCIMO, 147 by 100cm by its own diagram, with wings that clamp inside the front doors, an elastic band, and two mirror covers with green reflective strips. It shows no magnets, so it does not depend on what your bonnet is made of. Its installation is four photographs: fix the elastic, put on the mirror covers, shut the wings in the doors, done | Check opens in a new tab |
| The cheapest that gives a size Car Windshield Snow Cover Winter Ice Frost Guard | £4.58$6.11€5.39checked 18 Oct 2026 | A thin silver foil sheet with black edging, 150 by 70cm by its own photograph, with loops at the corners, shown on the outside of a windscreen. It rolls up small. Thin foil keeps frost off the glass and not much more, and expect it to move in a wind more than a heavier cover held by magnets or door flaps | Check opens in a new tab |
| Magnets, with the size printed Sunshade Cover Car Windshield Snow Sun Shade | £5.30$7.06€6.23checked 18 Oct 2026 | Quilted silver, 140 by 101.5cm by its own photograph, with five magnets along the bottom edge that sit on the bonnet, and mirror covers. It is sold in two versions: a thicker foil one with flaps that clamp in the doors, and a plainer fleece lined one. Take the door flap version if your bonnet will not hold a fridge magnet | Check opens in a new tab |
What you can settle before you buy
- Measure your windscreen. Across the bottom of the glass and up the middle. The car covers here that print a size run from 140 to 210cm across and 70 to 125cm deep, so the right one for a small hatchback and the right one for a big estate are not the same cover.
- Choose how it holds on. There are three ways: magnets sewn into the edge that sit on the bonnet, flaps you shut inside the front doors, and elastic straps round the mirrors or down to the wheels. Many use two of the three. Door flaps also make it harder for someone to walk off with it.
- Windscreen only, or three windows. Sixteen covers do the windscreen and usually the mirrors. Fifteen also reach over the front side windows, and some the bonnet and roof as well, which saves scraping the door glass too. The largest cost several times as much.
- Put it on dry glass, the evening before. The point is to keep frost from forming on the windscreen, so it goes on before the cold night, not after a wet day with the glass still running.
What to read twice
- Magnets need a steel panel. Fifteen covers show or name magnets. Plenty of cars have an aluminium bonnet, and a magnet will not hold on it. Try a fridge magnet on yours first. Grit trapped under a magnet scratches paint if the cover is dragged, so lift it on and off.
- A car maker on the title is a search word. Ten titles name one. The cover sold For Fiat and the cover sold For Volvo are one gallery at one price. Four more listings, for Citroen, Ford, Zeekr and Mercedes, share one set of photographs, and the real car in them is an Audi.
- Two are not frost covers. Both are folding silver bubble foil shades that go inside the windscreen, and both have snow and ice in the title. Frost forms on the outside of the glass, where a shade inside cannot reach it.
- Fifteen of the thirty three give no size anywhere. That includes some of the dearest. A cover with no size is a cover you have to ask the seller about before you order.
